Apple recently released a security update for the Macintosh OS X vulnerability identified over the weekend. The vulnerability, which affects any version of Mac OS X only, was found in Apple?s Help Viewer application and could potentially erase a user?s hard drive after browsing the Web.
To install the security update, the Office of Technology Services (OTS) strongly recommends manually running Software Update. To do so, open the Apple menu and select System Preferences. Next, click Software Update and then Check Now. Finally, click Install (an administrative password will be required). When the updates are complete, you may need to restart your computer.
OTS also recommends that Software Update be configured to automatically check for updates weekly, if not more frequently.
