There are two initiatives to address food insecurity on our campus:
Food Insecurity is defined as the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
The Food Insecurity Support Fund was created to address the immediate need of students experiencing food insecurity. Stephanie Baker serves as the Program Manager for the Food Insecurity Support Fund. For students to access the Food Insecurity Support Fund, reach out to Stephanie Baker at studentaffairs@towson.edu or 410-704-2055. The Food Insecurity Support Fund allows money to be deposited directly on the TU OneCard to be utilized at dining halls on campus. The Food Insecurity Support Fund is an initiative done in collaboration with the President’s Staff Leadership Institute Class of 2016, Office of Development, Auxiliary Services, and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
In Collaboration with The Table: a Lutheran Episcopal ministry, the Office of Sustainability and the Division of Student Affairs, the FoodShare program was created to address the needs of students, faculty, and staff who are experiencing food insecurity. Our food pantry is now in the lower level lobby of Ward and West (the Health and Counseling Center). The pantry will be open on Mondays from 11am-1pm and Thursdays from 3-5pm, as well as by appointment (email foodshare@towson.edu for an appointment). Individuals using FoodShare will provide their TU ID and fill out an intake form prior to accessing the pantry. TU students, faculty, and staff can receive 10 items each week during the semester
