Be on Alert for Attempted E-Mail Scam

The Office of Technology Services is aware of incoming e-mails claiming to be from Liberia that request help for obtaining an inheritance. If you receive an e-mail from anyone (stranger or not) asking for help that will disclose personal information, delete the e-mail immediately to avoid the risk of identity theft.

The attempted e-mail scam is using a process called phishing, in which a sender impersonates a legitimate source to obtain personal information such as credit cards or social security numbers.

In situations like these, it is always good practice to disregard any suspicious messages and delete them from your inbox. Please contact OTS at x4-5151 if you have further questions.
