The Office of Technology Services (OTS) was notified Monday of a computer worm, dubbed ?Mytob? circulating rapidly around the Internet.
The worm, which affects Microsoft Windows-based machines only, is received in e-mail form with random senders? addresses and subject lines. Do not open any unknown zip file attachments, since the worm may mask itself as a zip file. The body of the e-mail varies, but most include a message, such as ?Follow the instructions in the attachment,? or ?Account information are attached!?
A minimal number of campus computers have been affected. OTS is currently updating unaffected machines over the network to prevent them from infection. At this time, all ?@towson.edu? e-mail addresses have been blocked from the worm, but other e-mail providers (e.g., Hotmail, Yahoo, Comcast) may not provide protection.
