USM Women’s Forum: Weekly Women’s History Month Info

In honor of Women’s History Month, throughout March the University System of Maryland Women?s Forum (USMWF) will be featuring affiliates of the USM and other topics of interest to highlight the ever increasing roles women play, as well as their contributions. This week we are providing Women’s History Month events being held throughout Maryland at various USM institutions:

? Activist, scholar, and author Angela Davis spoke at TU on March 5 on the topics of feminism, anti-racism and abolition democracy. The event was sponsored by the Women?s Center, LGBT Student Development, Campus Life, African & African American Studies, Women?s Studies Dept., Office of Equal Opportunity & Diversity, and QSU.

? A keynote address by acclaimed author Maya Angelou will conclude the second annual Feminist Legal Theory and Feminisms Conference this afternoon at the University of Baltimore School of Law. Due to overwhelming demand, registration for this event is now closed.

? Salisbury University (SU) presents The Vagina Monologues on March 6-7, 2009 at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center. Admission is $6/pp

? UMBC?s Gender + Women?s Studies & the Dresher Center for the Humanities (GWST) present The Muslim Headscarf in Europe: Veiled Threat or Religious Freedom? By Claudia Koonz, Professor of History, Duke University on March 11, 2009 at 4 p.m. in the AOK Library Gallery

? TU?s Department of Women?s Studies presents Taking Back God: American Women Rising Up for Religious Equality on March 12, 2009 at 3:30pm in the University Union Potomac Lounge

? SU?s Chair of the Sociology Department, Dr. Diane Illig, speaks on Coming Full Circle: The Goddess, Mother Earth, Going Green and the Search for the Sacred on March 24, 2009 at 7 p.m. in Nanticoke Room A

? The University of Maryland’s President’s Commission on Women’s Issues will hold the 2009 Celebration of Women on March 30, 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Colony Ballroom, Stamp Student Union
