On August 5th, the Office of Technology Services will be launching a new wireless network on campus called tu-openaccess – replacing the tu-guest network. The tu-guestnetwork will officially be retired on Monday, August 11th. Students and visitors to campus will no longer need credentials to connect to a wireless network on campus because tu-openaccess does not require you to log-in using your TU NetID.
Users should practice the same precautions as they would on an open network such as a coffee shop or airport. It is not recommended to use open networks when dealing with sensitive information. NetID holders should choose the TU-secure wireless network when working with sensitive information like social security numbers, credit cards, bank accounts and confidential University data. The tu-openaccess network can also be used to connect some devices, such as game consoles and media players that will not work with tu-secure.
