Volunteers Needed in Cherry Hill

The AmeriCorps VISTA for Cherry Hill Projects from the Office of Civic Engagement and Leadership is looking for volunteers for the Spring semester to help with programs in Cherry Hill. Cherry Hill is a neighborhood located in south Baltimore with which TU has partnered since 2005. Volunteer opportunities for the semester include:

  • Ø Young Gardeners Program

Volunteers are needed to teach elementary-middle school students after-school about gardening and nutrition. This program will take place every Thursday from 4:45-5:45 at Arundel Elementary-Middle School. An easy to follow curriculum will be in place for the volunteers to use throughout the program. Transportation will be provided.

  • Ø Mentoring

Provide mentoring to middle school students after school at Arundel Elementary-Middle. Mentors will enhance comprehension of content and skills and foster an excitement and appreciation for learning through an easy to follow curriculum.

  • Ø Reading Tutors

Provide reading assistance to struggling young readers at Friendship Academy in Cherry Hill. Engage in one-on-one tutoring with K-5th grade students who are reading 6 months – 2 ½ years below grade level.  There is an easy-to-follow curriculum that equips you to be ready to work with a student. 45 minute tutoring sessions will occur weekly.
