The Towson University Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.
Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments during a public information session on Monday, August 5, 2013 starting at 5 p.m. in the Administration Building, Room 424, Towson University, Towson, MD 21252. On-site parking is available
Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 410-704-6531 on Monday, August 5, 2013 between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. These phone calls will be answered by a member of the CALEA assessment team.
Comments to the assessors over the phone or during the public information session should be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the Towson University Public Safety Building during normal business hours. Please contact Mr. Bruce Robins, Police Planner at 410-704-5730 to schedule a time to review the standards.
Anyone may also submit written comments about the Towson University Police Department’s ability to comply with accreditation standards to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 135 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 22030-2215 or www.calea.org.
