ChemOlympics

On Saturday, April 16, 2005 the ChemOlympics competition will be held in Smith Hall, Rooms 505, 508, and 554 from 8:30a.m. to 3:30p.m.

The American Chemical Society (ACS) introduced ChemOlympics in 1990. The spring semester of each year, the ACS and 180 sponsors organize the ChemOlympics program for approximately 1,000 high school students to participate in ?The Nationally Written and Laboratory Exams? competition.

The Maryland Section of the ACS sponsors eleven students for this competition. After the national competition is over, four students are chosen for the international competition. The successful students are invited to tour the Air Force Academy for two weeks in June.

The Maryland Section of the ACS has members from Academics, Industry and Government Agencies, retired chemists and the coordinators are Mike Zapf and Shirish Shah. The American Chemical Society (ACS) has over 163,000 members at large and is one of the largest professional organizations in the U.S.
