CBE Announces First Annual Lecture Series: Dr. P.M. Forni, Author Of “Choosing Civility.”

Guest speaker addresses civility and good manners in the workplace.

?Life is a Relational Experience: Civility, Ethics and Quality of Life? will be presented by Dr. P.M. Forni, author of Choosing Civility: The Twenty-Five Rules of Considerate Conduct, on Thursday, March 31. The lecture, the first in a series hosted by the College of Business and Economics Center for Applied Business and Economics Research (CABER), will be open to the campus community in the University Union, Potomac Lounge from 7 to 9 p.m.

Dr. Forni?s series of commentaries, Speaking of Manners, is aired on WYPR, National Public Radio in Baltimore. He has appeared on a number of radio and television shows, including ABC?s World News Tonight and BBC?s Outlook. In addition, Dr. Forni?s work has obtained coverage from the New York Times, Times of London, Panorama, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, and Baltimore Sun.

Dr. Forni, professor at Johns Hopkins University, teaches courses on Italian literature and civility. He was co-founder of the Johns Hopkins Civility Project in 1997 and also the co-director of ?Reassessing Civility: Forms and Values at the End of the Century,? an international symposium, which took place in March 1998. Currently, he is the director of The Civility Initiative at Johns Hopkins University.

?Many of us have not spent much time thinking about how discourteous behavior affects us in our workplace and our personal lives. Dr. Forni teaches us to think about civility and its impact in ways that we may never have considered,? Louise Laurence, associate dean of the College of Business and Economics says. ?This is a ?must attend? lecture for students and others from all disciplines.?
