In the aftermath of last week?s devastating earthquake in Japan, people from around the world have watched and waited anxiously for additional news and information about how to help.
The TU International Student and Scholar Office received a heartfelt email from one of the university?s Japanese students, Yui Watanabe, who wanted to share this message about the situation in Japan:
?I certainly understand this is not the only disaster in the world. However, Japan is my country, where still my family lives. Although the quake didn’t impact them directly, I hear that supplies of food and gas are running out, [and] people still have fear for next quake attack. Also, I hear from my relatives in Sendai, the epicenter [of the earthquake]. The disaster area is suffering from lack of food, water, gas, blankets, diapers for baby and elders, baby formula, napkins and whatever you can imagine. I watch news from Japan all day long, [in] despair of every scene? scared every time the announcer says “Here comes another little quake, be calm,” wondering what I can do. So I decided to write this email to ask your support. Japan seems to be devastated now, but they will overcome definitely, [and] it will be little easier with your support.?
While we cannot officially endorse or sponsor an organization working in the earthquake relief efforts, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is encouraging those who wish to donate to the relief effort to visit InterAction.org?s list of “appropriate disaster relief” organizations currently working in Japan at {http://www.interaction.org/crisis-list/interaction-members-support-japan-earthquake-response}
