The Academy Awards Library Resource Guide
Compiled by Cook Librarians Jason Ezell and Melissa Ravely
It?s the season when we look back on the year in movies. And the Oscars have traditionally been the occasion to mark this cinematic retrospection. The Academy Awards allow us to see film as a craft, as business, as art, as political statement; but, more than anything, the Oscars ? with its red carpet, paparazzi, designer gowns, nostalgia montages, and harlequin-host ? present movie-making as a matter of royalty, celebrity, and tradition. Whether this inspires movie industry patriotism or treason, it?s a late-winter spectacle that many respond to gamely: from playing the ballots like a bookie to hosting an anti-Oscars party.
Whether the Academy Awards is your February cup of tea or no, we hope you find something at the link below to suit your own response to the awards and the review of the 2011 year in movies.
