WOMEN’S LACROSSE: A Record-Setting Weekend at Towson

Towson Athletics wanted to share its wonderful news with the University community. Over the Memorial Day Weekend, Towson University hosted the 2010 NCAA Division I Women?s Lacrosse Championship at Johnny Unitas? Stadium. For the semifinal doubleheader on Friday, 8,762 fans jammed the Stadium, breaking the United States record for paid attendance at a women?s lacrosse game, set the previous year at Towson for the 2009 NCAA semifinals. On Sunday, 9,782 fans attended the championship game between five-time champion Northwestern and Maryland, breaking the national attendance mark set just two days earlier. Maryland won the championship, but the real winners were the record-setting crowds that enjoyed two great days of women?s lacrosse on the Towson campus.

Towson Athletics would like to thank its many campus and community partners that assisted in hosting the event, including Chartwell?s, Aramark, the University Union Ticket Office, University Police, Parking Services, Event and Conference Services, as well as the staff and community volunteers that made the event so successful. The team hotels included the Towson University Marriott Conference Hotel, the Embassy Suites Baltimore North-Hunt Valley, the Crowne Plaza Timonium and the Marriott Hunt Valley, while the Sheraton Baltimore North in Towson served as the headquarters hotel. The 2010 event wrapped up a three-year stay at Towson for the NCAA Women?s Lacrosse Championship, attracting more than 45,000 visitors over the three events. Thanks for everyone?s help in providing memorable weekends for the visiting student-athletes and their guests!
