TIGER ATHLETICS: Tiger Softball and Women’s Lacrosse Earn Berths in the CAA and NCAA Tournaments, Respectively

2008 continues to be a terrific year for Tiger Athletics as the softball team and the women’s lacrosse team each earned post season tournament berths.

After earning a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament by sweeping a three-game weekend series from UNC Wilmington, the fourth-seeded Tigers (36-24) open CAA Tournament play on Thursday, May 8 against top-seeded Hofstra (39-10) at 12:00 noon.

Making their first appearance in the CAA Tournament since 2005, the Tigers will be playing in their fifth CAA Tourney. The Tigers have a 7-8 record in previous CAA Tournaments. The Tigers, who have finished as CAA runners-up three times, are 1-7 against Hofstra and 7-1 against the balance of the CAA.

After winning its second Colonial Athletic Association championship in the last four years, the Tiger women?s lacrosse team will face fifth-seeded Syracuse University in a first round game of the NCAA Division I Women?s Lacrosse Championships on Sunday, May 11, it has been announced by the NCAA Division I Women?s Lacrosse Committee.

The game will be played at the Carrier Dome at 3:30 p.m. Tickets for the game will go on sale at the Carrier Dome box office and on Syracuse?s official athletics website, www.suathletics.com, on Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. They are priced at $5 for adults and $3 for students with a valid ID card and youth ages 12 and under.

With a 13-5 record, the 18th-ranked Tigers will be making the second NCAA Tournament appearance in the program?s history. In 2005, the Tigers won the CAA championship and lost at Georgetown by a 15-14 margin. Meanwhile, Syracuse will be playing in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in its women?s lacrosse history and has reached the postseason in three of the last four years.
