Towson University and WNST (1570 AM) Radio have entered into a three-year marketing and broadcast agreement that will have the local station broadcasting all of the Tigers? football games for 2007, 2008 and 2009, director of athletics Mike Hermann announced.
WNST, a commercial station, replaces the Tigers? longtime football radio partner, WTMD-FM, the university?s 10,000-watt campus station. WTMD will continue to be a part of Towson?s basketball and lacrosse broadcasts.
?We are excited about partnering with a station that is so focused on reaching the Baltimore sports fan,? said Hermann. ?The Towson football broadcasts will be a featured part of WNST?s Saturday schedule, plus we will receive coverage through out other parts of the broadcast week. Moving to a commercial all-sports station is a major step for our football program and I am confident that the Towson business community will step forward to support this venture.?
In addition to the actual broadcasts, other key elements of the agreement include regular appearances of head coach Gordy Combs on the station and an expanded one-hour pre-game show for home contests, broadcast live from the Minnegan Room overlooking Unitas Stadium. Fans will be able to purchase tickets to an upscale meal in the Minnegan Room and listen to the pre-game show live, which will include a scouting report from an assistant coach, comments from other Towson head coaches and football alumni and an appearance from a variety of Baltimore sports celebrities.
