Sophomore midfielder Hillary Fratzke of the women?s lacrosse team has been named as the recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete award, it has been announced by CAA officials.
A first team All-CAA selection, Fratzke ranked second in the conference with 48 goals in addition to 12 assists. Named as a second team IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse All-America pick, she earned first team All-Mid Atlantic regional honors and was one of two Towson players named to the all-region teams. Fratzke was also named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second team and was a recipient of the CAA Commissioner?s Academic Award for the second straight year.
On the field, Fratzke led the CAA in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers per game. In addition, she ranked second in the CAA with a 3.2 goals per game average. She will enter her junior season with a 25-game goal scoring streak.
A Dean?s List student, Fratzke is a political science major.
This marks the third straight season that a Towson women?s lacrosse player has been named as the CAA Scholar-Athlete. Becky Trumbo, ?06 was a two-time recipient of the award, earning the honor during her junior and senior seasons.
The CAA honors one Scholar-Athlete in each of its 21 championship sports. Nominees for the award must be a starter or important reserve on their team and must meet the Academic All-America ? minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20. The winners were selected by a vote of the sports information directors at each CAA institution.
