TU Names Director of Extended Education and On-line Learning

Michael S. Schroder, consortia leader and assistant director for Continuing and Professional Education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, has been selected to direct Extended Education and On-Line Learning (EEOL) for Towson University?s Division of Economic and Community Outreach (DECO).

Schroder will report directly to James P. Clements, Ph.D., the University?s vice president for Economic & Community Outreach. As director, he will be responsible for coordination and partnership of online and other distance learning programs. Schroder will also be responsible for working directly with faculty and external partners/clients to set up multiple outreach activities such as workshops; short courses; meeting management for conferences and symposiums; homeland security programs; contracts; grants; certification/non-credit and industry certificate programs ? Project Management, CISSP, Series7, Public Manager, and others; as well as additional extended (continuing and professional) education activities.

In addition, Schroder will be responsible for setting up customized on-site training for private and not-for-profit organizations as well as government agencies. As director, he will also work with multiple community outreach and service learning projects in the surrounding region, particularly in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Schroder was with Virginia Tech University for nine years in its Continuing and Professional Education Department. During his tenure there he held positions as program leader, consortia leader and assistant director. Prior to that, he was a senior research associate with a project sponsored by Virginia?s Department of Education. He holds a bachelor?s degree from Virginia Tech in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management and a master?s degree from Virginia Tech in vocational and technical education with a concentration in training and development. He has completed all but his dissertation toward a Ph.D. in career and occupational studies with a concentration in training and development.
