Staff from the National Weather Service and the Baltimore County Office of Emergency Management will present Towson University with its StormReady Supporter certification at a ceremony held in the Minnegan Room at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 1.
To be certified as a StormReady Supporter, a university must demonstrate capability in the planning, education and awareness aspects of storm preparation. Specific qualifications include establishing a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center; creating a system to monitor local weather conditions, and developing a formal hazardous weather plan. Having a StormReady Supporter certification does not mean that the university is storm proof, but it does mean that we will be better prepared when severe weather strikes.
The presentation ceremony will include remarks by TU Police Chief Bernie Gerst, Cpl. Joe Gregory of TU’s Office of Emergency Preparedness, Lt. Mark Demski of the Baltimore County Office of Emergency Management, and Chris Strong of the National Weather Service. Members of the campus community are invited to attend.
