Towson University Athletics and the Red Cross are sponsoring the Eleventh Annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Drive on Monday, November 12 from 8a.m. – 8p.m. in the University Union’s Potomac Lounge.
In light of the recent tragedies in the Northeast, it is important for our Towson community to come together to help those in need.
Hurricane Sandy has affected blood collections in the Northeast, forcing the cancellation of more than 240 American Red Cross blood drives, resulting in a shortfall of more than 8,000 donations thus far.
That number continues to rise as blood drives are postponed due to power outages and flooding. It is important for those who can donate to step up and help replace these losses.
While Hurricane Sandy has affected the number of people available to donate, hospital patients still need blood. Nationwide, around 44,000 blood donations are needed each and every day to meet the needs of accident victims, cancer patients, and children with blood disorders. When disaster strikes, the need is even greater. It is the blood that is already on the shelves that helps save lives before, during and after a disaster.
All students, faculty and staff to are encouraged to consider donating blood on Monday.
