Each week, TowsonTigers.com will provide an inside look on one of our many student-athletes, called Meet the Tigers. So many of Towson’s student-athletes have amazing stories on how they came to play sports, or how they ended up at Towson or even their overwhelming success in the classroom.
This week’s feature is on men’s basketball forward Robert Nwankwo.
For a guy who never picked up a basketball until he was a 10th grader in high school, Tiger sophomore forward Robert Nwankwo has come a long way in a very short time.
His rise in the sport began in high school when he played a half-season on the Parkdale jayvee before his talents were recognized and he was moved up to the varsity. By his senior year he was averaging 15.5 points, 8j.1 rebounds and 7.2 blocks.
As a college freshman he walked-on at Towson.
?I was being recruited by Coach (Jimmy) Patsos at Loyola,? Robert recalled. ?During that time I was staying with my older brother, Daniel, who was a student at Towson. I began hanging out with the other guys playing pick up in Burdick. I liked the people and the campus so I changed my mind and I?m very happy with the decision I made.?
Robert and his brother have always been close. They had to rely on each other while attending school in Nigeria….
