Computational Thinking Course Proposals Due February 15th – Sponsored by the Dept. of Computer and Information Sciences

All faculty members are invited to submit a course proposal incorporating ?computational thinking? in their area of interest as part of an NSF-sponsored project on campus. As announced during the fall semester, the grant allocates funding for faculty members developing such a course, to be piloted either fall 2009 or spring 2010. Each faculty member whose proposal is accepted will be made a ?Faculty Fellow? on the grant and receive summer funding (for summer 2009) of $5,000 as well as travel money for eventual presentation of results. There is currently funding for two Faculty Fellows on the grant. However, it now looks like we may be able to fund one or two more. Therefore, we will do all that we can to support your course development if it appears to be viable.

We have set a deadline of February 15th for preliminary course proposals. All that is needed is a one or two-page summary of a proposed course. However, if it is possible to include more detailed information (e.g., a course syllabus), that would be even more helpful to us. Those faculty members whose proposals are accepted will have until April 1st to develop full proposals to be approved as Honors Seminar courses through the Honors College. (Those that may have other means of offering their course are just as workable as long as the course is offered no later than the Spring 2010 semester.)

For more information, contact Chuck Dierbach or Harry Hochheiser in the department of Computer and Information Sciences. We are very willing to discuss your ideas or answer questions you may have. More information is also available at the web site for this project, given below.
