Due to the heavy increase of two-wheel motorized vehicles such as scooters and mopeds on campus, Parking Services, in conjunction with TU University Police, would like to remind the TU community of the two wheel motorized vehicle policies:
– Two wheel motorized vehicles that don?t require a license plate must be registered with Parking and Transportation Services and will receive a free permit from the Parking & Transportation Services Office.
– Motorized vehicles must be in authorized parking locations: not in regular four-wheel vehicle spaces. Specifically designated Motorcycle/Scooter parking areas are available in all garages, and in lots 19 and 21 at the Towson Center.
– Most Motorcycle/Scooter areas include equipment for securing two wheel motorized vehicles.
– Maryland State Vehicle Law 21-1103 prohibits two wheel motorized vehicles from being driven on sidewalks. Effective immediately, operators are subject to citations for driving on sidewalks.
– These vehicles cannot be stored at bike racks, around buildings or in buildings.
Effective October 1, 2012:
-Failure to comply with these regulations may result in the impoundment of two wheel motorized vehicles. A release fee will be required for any impounded two wheel motorized vehicle on campus.
-The state of Maryland has implemented new laws that require all scooters/mopeds to be registered and display a Maryland sticker and be insured. The new law also requires the operator and passengers to wear a helmet and eye protection.
By following the above procedures, you will be helping to ensure the safety of the campus community. Your cooperation is appreciated.
