Flu has Arrived on Campus

The Health Center is now seeing patients with influenza. Because fewer people were immunized against the flu this year, and in accordance with prevention recommendations of the CDC, we are asking people with flu symptoms to stay at home until their fever is gone, preferrably for 48 hours. Professors and staff supervisors may expect to see increased class and work absences over the next few weeks. Please consult our web site for Dowell Health Center’s response to the flu, the TU policy on medical excuses, and flu prevention information: {http://www.towson.edu/dowellhealthcenter}.

Reminder: The best prevention is flu vaccine, now available while supplies last at the Health Center. All faculty, staff and students are eligible to receive their flu vaccine at the Health Center. The cost is $25.00 and you can pay by cash, check or TU One Card retail points. Students can charge the vaccine to their university account.

Walk-in hours for flu vaccine are 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Other times by appointment only: 410-704-2466, option 1. Don’t wait as supplies are limited!

Other ways to prevent the flu:

— Avoid contact with people who are sick.
— Stay home and do not attend work or classes if you have typical flu symptoms (high fever, muscle aches, headache, dry cough).
— Clean your hands frequently.
— Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
— Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
