Starting Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Office of Technology Services will begin upgrading Windows-based, faculty and staff computers to McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i. This campus-wide upgrade will provide a standard anti-virus application on all computers to help protect the university against the growing threat of computer viruses. This version of McAfee VirusScan provides automatic updates of virus definition files and protection against some spyware and adware.
The installation is automated, silent and unobtrusive. It will not affect student computing labs or computers that already have the latest version of McAfee. Further details and the exact scheduling of the rollout will be advertised on OTS Alerts ({http://alerts.towson.edu}).
In addition, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise is free for use for currently employed faculty and staff on personally owned computers! The software package and installation instructions are available at {http://wwwnew.towson.edu/adminfinance/ots/CoreTechSecurity/OTSDownloadsall.asp}.
