FBI Identifies E-mail Scam

The FBI’s Washington Field Office has confirmed the existence of a new computer virus.

Apparently e-mails are being sent that appear to come from FBI.gov, an external unclassified method of communication used by the FBI. The e-mails advise receipients that they are being monitored by the FBI’s “Fraud Complaint Center” and directed to open the attachment for additional information. Once the attachment is opened a virus is unleashed on the recipient’s computer.

The FBI has shut down their FBI.gov site until further notice as their investigation continues.
