H: and O: Drives and Exchange Unavailable from 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 to noon, Sunday, Nov. 9

The university?s H: and O: drives will be unavailable to campus users from 9 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 to noon, Sunday, Nov. 9. During this time, the Microsoft Exchange e-mail server will also be sporadically unavailable to a limited number of users.

The H: and O: network drives will be moved to new hardware this weekend. Faculty and staff should save and close all open files before leaving Friday evening. In addition, individuals should restart their computers Monday morning to ensure machines connect properly to network drives. To restart your computer, go to the Start menu, select Shut Down and choose Restart.

For those who manually map to network drives, H: drives will move from the “white” server to the “gold.” You will need to update the H: drive mapping to reflect the new server name.

Example:

Old path: \whitejdoe$
New path: \gold\jdoe$

The drive transfer is necessary because the hardware the H: drive currently occupies has less than 1 percent of free space, and the O: drive has recently run out of space several times. The move does not provide users with increased quotas of space available on the drives but will increase reliability and availability for future use.

Exchange will be unavailable for preventative maintenance. The application is nearly full, and technicians will run a process that shrinks its databases, allowing for more space. Only 25 percent of users will be affected by the maintenance.
