Speaker: Dr. Lina Zhou, Professor, Information Systems Department, UMBC
TODAY – Wednesday, March 7, 4:00-5:30pm, 7800 York Road building, room 301
The remarkable upsurge of social media has generated dramatic impacts on the academic community. Social media are reshaping how we understand human behavior, ranging from pooling the public’s opinions about a policy issue, through discovering latent topics mentioned by general users, to detecting the intention and mental state of social media users. This talk will provide a discussion of our several ongoing and completed interdisciplinary research projects examining the role of social media analytics that contribute to understanding human behavior in various applications, a framework to design and examine analytics methods, and the use of social media analytics to address information credibility. We will also discuss practical implications and challenges of applying such techniques.
