Towson University recently completed its participation in the annual, nationwide RecycleMania competition. As a result, out of roughly 200 college and university participants, TU was able to achieve #48 in the Total Recycling category of the competition by recycling 367,829 lbs.!
The University was also able to snag #70 in the diversion category of the finals results with a recycling rate of 42.7 percent–a great improvement from last year when the university placed #130 with a rate of 29.5 percent. Organics have also improved–most likely as a result of the Compost Pilot in two of the Residence Halls–from #88 in the past (2.83 lbs. per capita) to #71 with 3.79 lbs. per capita.
This is a great achievement for TU, and we succeeded because students, faculty, and staff were dedicated to reducing and properly disposing of waste. Great job, Tigers!
