Global Challenges Lecture Series with Michael Rubin, American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research

Michael Rubin, Resident Scholar with the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, presents his lecture entitled, “Talk Ain’t Cheap: The High Cost of Diplomacy with Enemies,” for the College of Liberal Arts’ Global Challenges Lecture Series. Dr. Rubin is a former Pentagon official whose major research areas are the Middle East, Turkey, Iran and diplomacy. He has lived in post-revolution Iran, Yemen, and both pre- and post-war Iraq, and he spent time with the Taliban before 9/11. Dr. Rubin earned a Ph.D. in history from Yale University in 1999. His dissertation, The Making of Modern Iran, 1858–1909: Communications, Telegraph and Society, won Yale’s John Addison Porter Prize. His newest book, Dancing with the Devil: The Perils of Engaging Rogue Regimes, examines a half century of U.S. diplomacy with rogue regimes and terrorist groups.
