Summer traffic & pedestrian impacts: West Village & University Union

This summer, solar panels will be installed in five locations on campus as part of TU’s first solar project. The panel installation will result in some closures to parking areas and pedestrian pathways:

West Village

From Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 22, the main brick walkway (Towson Way) in front of Barton House and Douglas House will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Pedestrian traffic will be rerouted south along the front of West Village Commons and back onto Towson Way, as shown in the project map.  Fencing will be installed and signage will be posted at multiple locations.  Pedestrians exiting Paca or Tubman will be directed toward West Village Commons and will not be permitted to walk towards Barton and Douglas.

The closure will allow solar panels to be lifted onto the rooftops of Barton and Douglass Houses.  There will be a large crane as well as various lifting and loading equipment in the area. The parking spaces in front of the yellow bollards connecting lot 17 to Towson Way will be closed for crane set-up.

We appreciate your patience. Stay tuned to T3 for notifications on upcoming closures and detours. For questions, email Steve Kolb at skolb@towson.edu.

University Union

Beginning the week of July 5, several pedestrian pathways on the south side of the University Union will be closed to all pedestrian traffic.  Fencing will be installed and detour signs will be posted to direct all pedestrian traffic around the construction areas.  The purpose of the closures is to load solar panels onto the rooftop of the University Union.

See the exact locations of the Union closures and detours on the project map.  The pathways shown in red will be closed; the pathways shown in yellow are the detour routes and are open.  The closures will be in place for between two and three weeks.
