Office 365 is Coming to Campus – What it Means for You

The Office of Technology Services is pleased to announce the Office 365 Project. Microsoft Office 365 is a set of cloud-hosted collaboration and fully-integrated office suite applications. Office 365 combines document sharing, email and calendaring, common Office applications and social-networking tools into a single, web-based platform. This means more storage space, new services and mobile applications for your iOS, Android and Windows mobile devices – and because the services and data are in the cloud, they can be accessed from virtually anywhere at any time.

Features for students

  • Downloadable version of Office Suite Pro Plus will be available to students at no charge on up to five personal devices. This includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher and Lync
  • Office for Mac to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • OneDrive will provide 1 TB of online storage to students.
  • Student emails will remain the same-they will continue to use Google Apps for email.
  • Integration with Office Web Apps will allow students to work on documents online using only a browser.
  • Lync will permit student teams to work on projects in real-time while in different locations, schedule meetings, set up audio/visual conferencing, use instant messaging and desktop sharing.
  • SharePoint sites for collaboration and document sharing sites for student organizations. Currently only available to faculty/staff.

 

Features for faculty and staff

  • Faculty and staff are eligible to use Microsoft Office Suite Pro Plus at home, providing remote accessibility.
  • Increase in email quotas in Outlook increase by 200 times (Increase from 250MB to 50GB).
  • Ability to access all email data at any time from any device, rendering email archive (.pst) files obsolete.
  • OneDrive will provide an increase in storage space (1 TB Quota), accessible from any device, and can be shared within or outside the university.
  • Continued audio/visual collaboration via Lync-now able to use with students.
  • SharePoint 2013 sites for collaboration and document sharing sites for faculty and staff.
