Celebrating Disability Self-Advocacy in September

Cook Library with support from the College of Fine Arts & Communication, the Mass Communication & Communication Studies Department, the Office of Civic Engagement & Leadership, Disability Support Services, and Pepsi are proud to present the following events and programs related to self-advocacy:

 

Self Advocacy: A History of People Speaking Up for Themselves Exhibit

Tuesday, Sept. 9th through Sunday, Sept. 28th

Cook Library, 3rd Floor

This exhibit from the Museum of Disability History traces the Self-Advocacy Movement from early educational facilities to the development of organizations established for and by individuals with disabilities.

 

“Lives Worth Living” Film Screening and Panel Discussion

Wednesday, Sept. 10th

6-8pm, College of Liberal Arts, Room 1201

This event features a screening of the documentary “Lives Worth Living” that focuses on the history of the disability advocacy movement and will be followed by a panel discussion with local disability advocates from Maryland ADAPT, The Arc, IMAGE Center, and the Maryland Disability Law Center

 

Uppity Blind Girl: Poetry by Kathi Wolfe
