Tuvan Throat Singers return to TU on May 4 and 5

Genghis Blues and the Return of Alash

Alash Ensemble returns to the Asian Arts and Culture Center at Towson University to screen the 1999 documentary Genghis Blues which follows San Francisco bluesman and composer Paul Peña’s musical pilgrimage to the land of Tuva to compete in a national throat singing competition.

Alash manager/interpreter Sean Quirk will introduce the film, followed by a brief performance by the group with guest Shodekeh and preview of the new documentary “Shu-De!”.

Alash Open Jam Session

Center for the Arts Dance Studio Theatre

 

Come jam with the Tuvan throat singers of Alash and beatboxer Shodekeh. Musicians, vocalists, dancers, and observers welcome. Open to the Towson University community and members of the Asian Arts & Culture Center.
