The Last Mountain (2011)
Wednesday Oct 9
In the mountains of Appalachia entire towns are being abandoned as the inhabitants succumb to cancer, poverty, and environmental devastation caused by mountain top removal, an energy extraction practice where mountain tops are blown up in order to get the coal beneath. But a few remain to fight the corporations and the war raged against them. Featuring Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and a cast of activists and experts, the film looks at the context and history of environmental laws in the United States.
The film will be shown at 7 p.m. in CLA 4110.
