Transnational Labor Migration in the Arab Gulf States

Guest Lecturer Andrew M. Gardner, Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington.

Dr. Gardner’s presentation will draw on a decade of research in these states and amongst these labor migrants.  It provides an overview of the migration system that governs foreign workers in the region, it surveys the findings of several new research projects, and it considers whether migration in the Gulf States provides us with a window into our collective global future.

Dr. Gardner is a sociocultural anthropoligist and ethnographer by training.  His fieldwork has been focused on the peoples and societies of the petroleum-rich states of the Arabian peninsula.

Monday, September 30, 2013 in the College of Liberal Arts, room 3310 from 7 – 8:30 p.m.
