Georgia O. Baker, Professor Emerita, Department of Theatre Arts, has published three costume design articles in the USITT Projects for Teaching Costume Design & Technology, 2012-2013 A Compendium, Volume 2.

Department of English

Liz Angeli presented a paper, “The Public Writing of Emergency Medical Professionals,” at the   international conference of CCCC  in Las Vegas on March 14.

Jennifer Ballengee presented a paper, “The Ruins of the Literary: World Literature and Telematics,” at the American Comparative Literature Association conference in Toronto. She also co-organized a seminar, “Telematics and World Literature.”

Tara Bynum has a note in the “Notes and Queries” section of the online Archive.  Its title is “On the Threshing Floor; or Just Another Day at the Archive.”

Chris Cain and R. D. Fulk have just seen the 2nd edition of their definitive History of Old English Literature published by Wiley-Blackwell this month.

Erin Fehskens won a Faculty Development Research Committee summer grant to finish her manuscript, “Crick Crack, Muse: Afterlives of Epic in the Black Atlantic.”

Jennifer Mott-Smith coauthored Teaching Writing, just published by TESOL.

Dana Phillips was elected to the executive council of the Western Literature Association for a three-year term.  He was also given an honorary appointment as Senior Research Associate at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa, where he will be affiliated with the English department and will visit once a year.

Diane Scharper wrote a poem, “Winter at the Birth of Spring,” that she read at the inauguration of James F. Conneely as president of Notre Dame of Maryland University on April 5.  She also reviewed David Ferry’s new book of poems, Bewilderment: New Poems and Translations, in The Weekly Standard of April 29.

Andrew Reiner was awarded the Faculty of the Year award at the Honors College Convocation on Saturday, May 4, 2013.

Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice

Harjant Gill has been accepted into the National Endowment for the Humanities Institute, India’s Past and the Making of the Present, for which he will spend the month of July in India. He will remain in India for a time after the seminar to begin shooting for his new documentary film commissioned by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust, tentatively titled Guyland.
