Towson Tigers Participating in CAA Food Drive

Tiger Fans!

The Towson University Department of Athletics will participate in the Colonial Athletic Association Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s inaugural food drive challenge, addressing the need for food donations community-wide to fight hunger.

The Tiger softball, women’s lacrosse, women’s basketball and men’s basketball teams will all have collection boxes in place Saturday, March 2 at their games that day. In addition, collections boxes will be made available in residence halls, the University Union and West Village Commons. They will collect non-perishable food items in conjunction with local food banks.

Travelstead Transportation Group is working with the Tigers on this outreach project  as part of their Move for Hunger initiative.

Towson will be competing with eight other schools in the CAA to see who can provide the most donations. The winner will be based on the number of pounds of non-perishable food collected. The winning institution will receive a trophy presented by CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager in March.

The idea was conceived by the league’s SAAC at its Leadership Summit last fall. Prior to the CAA’s new initiative, it also participated in an annual blood drive for 11 years. The drive raised nearly 37,000 units of blood.

All attendees of the Tiger events that day are encouraged to help support the cause.
