IMPORTANT PAYROLL NOTICE – 2013 W-4 REQUIRED

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is now requiring employees who claim exempt from federal tax withholding to file a new W-4 form each year.

In order to continue to claim exemption on federal tax, you must submit a new 2013 W-4 form no later than February 18, 2013 to the Payroll Office (4th floor, Administration Building).

If a new 2013 W-4 form is not received by this date, the IRS requires federal tax withholding be withheld at the default rate of Single (marital status) with an allowance of zero (0).

Note: Separate 2013 W-4 forms for residents of DC or West Virginia, if applicable.

Instructions to continue to claim exempt on 2013 Employee Withholding Allowance Certificate.

Section 1 – Employee Information

Complete all blue highlighted areas

Payroll System is CT, Name of Employing Agency is Towson University, Agency Number is 360224

Section 2 – Federal Withholding Form W-4

3 Check appropriate marital status

7 Write “Exempt” if you wish to remain exempt from federal taxes

Section 3 – Maryland Withholding Form MW 507

Check appropriate marital status

3. Maryland residents who wish to remain exempt from MD state taxes.

Check boxes a. and b.; fill in 2013 and write “Exempt” on line 3.

OR

4. Pennsylvania or Virginia residents who wish to remain exempt from MD state taxes.

Check appropriate state; and write “Exempt” on line 4

Section 4 – Employee Signature

Enter date, print form, sign and submit to Towson University’s Payroll Office

If you choose to have either federal or state taxes withheld from your 2013 pays, you can complete the 2013 W-4/MW507 form with the appropriate number of allowances in Section 2 / line 5 for Federal and Section 3 / line 1 for MD State.  If so, do not complete the exempt areas.
