Effective Tuesday, August 17, 2004, Towson University will implement a new tobacco policy on campus. It reads as follows:
Towson University Smoking Policy
Towson University is committed to promoting a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. In that regard, the health risks related to smoking and secondhand smoke have prompted implementation of the following tobacco policy:
Smoking is prohibited in all buildings and interior spaces on the Towson University campus, including University Housing.
Smoking is also prohibited within 30 feet of building entrances, overhangs, porches and vestibules, except where smoking areas are specifically designated.
Policy approved by the President?s Council, July 19, 2004
This policy relies on the thoughtfulness, cooperation and consideration of smokers and non-smokers alike. It is the responsibility of the Towson University community to observe this policy and to direct those who are smoking to the appropriate designated smoking areas.
Concerns regarding violations of this policy should be referred to the appropriate Dean, Vice President, Director, Chairperson or Building Manager.
Written and approved by the Tobacco Coalition Committee and Tobacco Peer Educators, July 2004
**Maps with designated campus smoking locations will be available in a future edition of the Daily Digest.
