Take a break from your studying for exams and check out the display in the lobby of Cook Library. This display was created by The Black Student Union and the African American Cultural Center to honor the heroic contributions of the Tuskegee Airmen that fought in World War II. Their unit–officially the 99th Fighter Squadron–was the first African American flying corps. The exhibit also highlights Order 9981, which was signed by President Harry S. Truman in 1948 to end segregation of the U.S. Armed Forces. This exhibit was first displayed at the University Union on November 5th when four survivors of that Squadron shared their memories and experiences. Cook Library thanks Yvonne Phillips-Hardy for remounting the display in our lobby.
