1. Motion 05/06-31:
To oppose implementation of the University?s new advising system which would require one-on-one advising and responsibilities for faculty, with tremendously disproportionate time and responsibility requirements for faculty of larger departments. Problems include, but are not limited to, the following concerns:
1. Recruitment of new faculty, especially for large departments; 2. the increasingly incompatible goals for the faculty including the advising changes, the movement of the faculty into a research intensive university, and the compounding of the workload addition for faculty members; and 3. the significant time encroachment plus the disproportionate time consumption the policy promises for large departments.
(Prof. Richard Vatz)
