Of Mice, Men and Cells: Approaches to Air Pollution Studies

The first presentation in the Chemistry Department’s Fall 2005 Analytical Chemistry Seminar Series will be given on Tuesday, November 15 by Dr. Polina B. Maciejczyk of the Nelson Institute of Environmental Medicine (New York University School of Medicine).

Dr. Maciejczyk is an expert in the analysis of dust and other particulates contributing to air pollution in our cities. Her studies have included the accumulations of metals, trace elements and semi-volitile organic compounds on exterior window surfaces in Baltimore as well as the characterization of potentially harmful dust resulting from the collapse of the World Trade Center. She has also studied the effects of exposure to air particulates in mice. The seminar will be of interest to anyone working with urban air pollution and its effects on the environment.

The seminar will be held in SM 554 at 11:00am. Light refreshments will be served. For additional information, contact {ndebye@towson.edu}, 410-704-3046.
