You are cordially invited to join the African and African American Studies Program for a lecture, “Understanding the Legacy of Black Power Forty Years Later, ” Wednesday, April 27, 2005, from 2:00-3:30 pm in the African American Cultural Center, University Union, Room 317. Dr. Floyd Hayes, III, Coordinator of Programs and Undergraduate Studies at the Center for Africana Studies, Johns Hopkins University (JHU), will discuss the present-day impact of the Black Power Movement, whose roots reach back to the mid-1960s. Dr. Hayes is a widely published scholar whose A Turbulent Voyage: Readings in African American Studies, 3rd ed. serves as the required text in classrooms across the country. His lecture augments an exhibit on Black Power currently at the Eisenhower Library, JHU.
Program co-sponsors include the Multicultural Institute, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the African American Cultural Center. Refreshments will be served.
