Towson University places a high value on original, student-centered scholarly activities mentored by faculty as part of the learning experience. This includes, for example, research in natural, social, and mathematical sciences, artistic performances, and works of art.
To facilitate such scholarly activities, the newly created Office of Undergraduate Research offers competitive grants to fund undergraduate research in all fields and to send students to professional meetings to report the outcomes of their scholarly activities.
The Office of Undergraduate Research supports undergraduate research through three competitive programs: research grants (up to $500), travel grants (up to $500), and small project awards (up to $100). Research and travel grant applications are accepted two times per year (fall and spring deadlines). Small project awards are accepted on a rolling basis, contingent on the availability of funds.
The upcoming fall deadline is September 21, 2012.
Completed applications are to be submitted electronically (including cover page, letter of support, and the proposal in a single PDF format file) to the Office of Undergraduate Research ({undergradresearch@towson.edu}) located in the Honors College, Stevens Hall, Room 300A (Director, Dr. Vonnie Shields; 4-3753).
