One Show Only in Maryland: The Sound of Ecstasy

Asian Arts & Culture Center presents
The Sound of Ecstasy: Buddhist Ritual Song and Dance from Korea
Friday, October 16, 8:00 p.m.; Stephens Hall Theater, Towson University

As part of the Spiritual Rhythms of Asia Concert Series, the Sound of Ecstasy features ritual song and dance derived from ancient Buddhist ceremonies. Unique to Korea and nearly lost in history, the Young San Ceremony was preserved and revived by the Young San Preservation Group. The ceremony was an elaborate three-day event performed for the well being of the nation in times of both joy and disaster. The sacred chanting and dance, accompanied by drums, cymbals, gongs and chimes, were nominated for preservation as an Intangible Cultural Asset in 1973. Organized by the Korea Society, NY.

$16 general; $13 seniors and students; $10 AA&CC members and TU students with I.D.
