Books for Kids Book Drive

We have heard the saying that ?Reading is fundamental?, but for many children in our area this is not the case because access to books necessary to develop strong reading skills are not readily available. The Division of Student Affairs at Towson University endeavors to change that by partnering with Baltimore Reads, Inc. to ensure that many disadvantage children have a chance to read.

May 6 has been designated Baltimore Reads Books for Kids Day 2006, and the division has organized a university-wide book drive during its Community Service Week ? ?Spring into Volunteering? from April 24-28. Students, faculty and staff are asked to donate new or gently-used books for kids ages K -12.

A number of convenient drop off sites have been provided on campus ? Linthicum, University Union, Burdick Hall, Jewish Cultural Center, Cook Library, Administration Building, The Den, The Glen, Stephens Hall and the Towson Center.

In addition, students can participate in the book drive either individually or as a student organization to win several prizes for the most books donated. Prizes include $150 catered meal, pizzas, and more. Students or groups wishing to participate in the competition can pick up collection bags from the offices of Student Activities, Diversity Resources, Campus Life, or Student Government.
