Writing Conversations: Blackboard and Plagiarism: How to use the former to counteract the latter

Whether you teach in the English Department or in any one of the other fine departments at Towson University, at some point you may have struggled with the issue of plagiarism: how to design assignments to prevent it, how to convince students not to do it, how to deal with it when it occurs. No matter what we do, however, it seems that students? unfamiliarity with what constitutes plagiarism, their lack of confidence in their own ideas, and their issues of poor time management may cause them to turn to Google for what they may see as an easy way to ?write? a paper.

This session will address strategies to help students avoid plagiarizing as well as introduce the many functions of the Safe Assign feature on Blackboard, a tool designed to identify plagiarized work.
