Fall 2005 Graduate Lecture Series Presents Jayne Miller

The College of Graduate Studies and Research presents Jayne Miller, chief investigative reporter for the WBAL-TV News 11 Investigates I-Team, on Thursday, November 3, at 7 p.m. in the University Union, Potomac Lounge. The veteran reporter discusses “Information Overload: Ethics and Truth in a 24-Hour News Cycle.”
Miller will talk about how a reporter can aggressively pursue the truth and present the news accurately, completely in context, and what changes should be made to university curriculum to make sure tomorrow’s press corps is well prepared to work in a sea of change. This and more will be explored during an interactive, informative discussion.
Miller is well known to the Baltimore metropolitan area through her long tenure with WBAL-TV. She’s been a reporter with the station for nearly 20 years — first as a general assignment reporter, then as the Consumer Advocate with “11 on Your Side,” and now as the chief investigative reporter with the 11 Investigates I-Team. She has a reputation for breaking stories that otherwise may never be told. Her work has uncovered corrupt public officials and unethical practices in private business and has raised issues of accountability and effectiveness in the criminal justice system. Her reporting has resulted in changes in legislation and public policy and has earned national and regional awards in journalism. Additionally, the Women’s Law Center in Baltimore recognized Miller for her contribution to women’s rights and The House of Ruth recognized her investigative reporting on domestic violence issues.
Miller lives in Baltimore City and serves as chair of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake and as chair of Live Baltimore Marketing Center. She is a member of the Board of Directors of Citizens Planning and Housing Association (CPHA) and is a past member of the board of directors of Women Entrepreneurs of Baltimore.
