Towson is coming off a championship performance in last weekend?s Delaware Invitational and would like to keep the success going as the Tigers attempt to defend their Towson Invitational cross country title when eight schools gather this Saturday morning at the Oregon Ridge Park course.
The men?s race gets underway at 10:00 a.m. followed by the women at 10:45. Joining the Tigers will be Coppin State, Morgan State, Loyola, Johns Hopkins, Stevenson, UMES and Delaware State.
The Tigers placed second behind Johns Hopkins at the season opening Baltimore Metro Meet and then ran by Delaware, George Mason and Seton Hall for the team title in the Delaware Invitational where they earned six of the top 10 spots. It marked the first time in program history four Towson runners were clocked under 19:00 in the same 5K race.
Junior Katie Ogden has been Towson?s leader to date. She has finished second overall and first for the Tigers in both races, clocking a personal record 18:18 at Delaware. Sophomore Katlyn Dillow and junior Erika Griffith have been pleasant surprises, trading seconds and thirds in both races. The three are the only Towson runners to post under 19:00 times in each race thus far this season.
Junior Liya Kasimova is the Towson Invitational defending individual champ. She won the 2009 event in a time of 19:14.
