Towson University?s women?s cross country squad tied for 23rd among 176 Division I programs selected by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as an All-Academic Team. It?s Towson?s fourth straight year for receiving the recognition.
For a team to be cited by the USTFCCCA for an All-Academic honor it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
The Tigers finished 14th at last fall?s Mid-Atlantic Regional held on Maryland?s Eastern Shore. They posted a team GPA of 3.54, tying them with Syracuse, Lehigh and Bowling Green for 23rd.
Towson led the contingent of Colonial Athletic Association schools honored that included Georgia State and Northeastern (3.42), Delaware (3.32), UNC Wilmington (3.26), James Madison (3.20) and William & Mary (3.13). In addition to the Tigers, Loyola (3.34) and Navy (3.32) were the only other Division I women?s collegiate cross country teams from the state of Maryland to qualify for this recognition.
